Highway 37 flood fix could happen this year

Published Friday February 3

Caltrans is looking at an $8 mill. fix along Hwy 37 in Novato to help stave off flooding that shut down the road after heavy storms.

With renewed focus, the State Route 37 Policy Committee met Thu at Novato City Hall to discuss flooding and short- and long-term solutions to fix the increasingly busy thoroughfare.

The flooding on the highway last 30 days was a result of the storms that caused Novato Creek to swell while king tides blocked the water from flowing into San Pablo Bay. That forced water onto the highway and closed a 4-mile stretch, backing up traffic in the region.

Now Caltrans is developing a short-term fix that could come together this year.
